With so many areas of Africa in the news, it almost seems overwhelming to try to get a grasp of what is happening, where, and why. Where does one begin, in trying to get an understanding of the many cultures, economies, histories, of the 54 countries on the continent? Through this series of speakers and films, we hope to provide an opportunity for our community to, bit by bit, gain understanding of the complexities of Africa. This series of programs focuses on Sudan and Rwanda. Reading Lists: Wednesday, October 15, 2008, 7-8 pm: "From Grass to Grace", presentation by Michael Siaway. Michael Siaway is a legal refugee from Liberia, West Africa, who has lived in the US since 2003. Michael's life was drastically affected by the 11-year civil crisis in Liberia, during which he lost family and community. He lived in a refugee camp for many years. Michael will talk about the impact of the traumatic experiences and the development of his faith. Your registration prior to these programs is requested. Call the library at 215-723-9109 x1 to register. |
