Everyone is thinking green these days -- not  $$-green or holiday-green or Grinch-green, but green for the environment.  It seems natural to splurge this time of year, but it also feels right to avoid being wasteful, to conserve, to protect this magnificent land.
Need ideas?  IVPL has lots of new books to help you shop smarter, decorate with nature-friendly materials, avoid overspending, conserve electricity, and protect the earth.  Instead of driving to the movies or the mall, stop in for a cozy novel or a movie to see at home.  Bring your children to meet Santa on December 15, and take your own pictures at the storyhour.
Special thanks to Jack Eells, who is retiring this month from the SASD.  Jack has served on our Board of Trustees since 1985 -- 22 years of dedication to the library and this community.  We thank you, Jack, and we'll miss you very much.           --Linda Beck, Director

Hamlet Walks on Stage Today

HamletNew Program Coming Soon!
The Canadian TV series, Slings and Arrows, gives us a perfect opportunity to read Shakespeare's Hamlet and appreciate its relevance to our lives today. The series follows a theater company as it attempts to produce Hamlet, while at the same time experiencing many of the problems the troubled Dane faces in the play: it's a play within a play!

Through the play, the TV series, and excerpts of Hamlet in film, we'll explore Shakespeare's themes, and his characters' problems in our own lives as family members, citizens, workers, and friends.

We'll meet six times in January and February. Please bring a copy of Hamlet with you to each event, but don't start reading until after January 7. Dates are as follows:

Mondays, Jan. 7, 14, 21, 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Monday, Feb. 11, 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Sunday, Feb. 17, 2:00 - 4:00 pm
Monday, Feb. 25, 7:00 - 9:00 pm

Darryl Smith, a teacher at Muhlenberg College and former teacher at SAHS, will lead the discussion. Please call the Reference Desk (215-723-9109, ext. 1) to reserve a spot.
