Catch the Reading Bug!

2008 Summer Reading Club at the Indian Valley Public Library

1. Register at the library or online beginning Monday, June 2, 2008.

2. Read as many books as you like during the summer. Keep track of them on your Reading Record.

3. Bring your Reading Record back to the library throughout the summer. Stickers, puzzles, and more are yours for every 10 books you read.

4. Look over special events and plant to come to as many as you can.

5. Starred events are only for registered Summer Reading Club Members.

6. Reading certificates may be picked up between August 16 and 31.

Thursday, June 26 - 7:30pm: Bug magic

Kick off summer fun with Master Magician Eric Paul. Watch as invisible fireflies turn on a light bulb, silkworms magically fill their homes with yards of silk, and butterflies appear in an empty nest. A little magic will help you catch the Reading Bug.

Tuesday, July 1 - 6:30pm: Family Movie Night

Enjoy a family movie night at IVPL. Watch Creepy, Crawly Animals followed by Antz on our big screen. Bring a blanket and pillow and sit as close as you dare. Popcorn provided.

Monday, July 7 - Friday, July 11: Create a Critter Take and Make

Stop in the Children's Room to pick up everything you need to make a nifty craft at home this week. Take home some fun and some books to add to your reading count. Have you caught a Reading Bug yet?

* Thursday, July 17 - 7:30pm: The Buzz

Bee Program with Dr. William Blodgett. Come in to the Community Room to learn all about bees and their "bee-havior".

* Tuesday, July 22 - 11:00am - 2:00pm: Build a Bug Lego Day

Use your imagination and Legos to create and insect or insect scene. Will you see an insect from space, a giant insect from the past, or an insect from your back porch? Bring your own Legos. There will be a pizza lunch for all who participate.

* Monday, July 28 - 7:30pm: Bug Hunt at the Library

Go buggy hunting for clues in our library scavenger hunt. Learn about bugs and how to use your library.

* Tuesday, August 5 - 11:00am - 12:00pm: Miss Spider's Rehearsal Party

Miss Spider is getting married on August 6th and we have to get the library ready. Come out to help create colorful spider webs and decorate the reading room for Miss Spider's Wedding. Feel free to attend her wedding in your best clothes and dancing shoes on Wednesday, August 6th at 11:00am.

* Thursday, August 7 - 7:00pm - 9:00pm: Young Authors Award Night

Young authors can join us for a pizza party from 6:30 -7:00pm to celebrate their writing skills. Parents, siblings, and friends are welcome at 7:00pm for our awards ceremony.

Friday, August 15 - 7:30pm: Wrap-up and Release

All Read-to-Me Club, Summer Reading Club members and families are invited to finish the summer with a flourish. We will hear some exciting stories from Kristin Pedemonti in her program "The Bug's Life", and then release the butterflies we have raised.

Catch the Reading Bug!

Reading Bugs are hiding in our books. Find one and you will earn a reward when you check out the book where it was hiding. Take it to the Front Desk and trade this pesky critter for a real treat. Don't worry if you don't find this bug until you get home.
